To create awareness among industry players on the vast potential offered by ECER’s herbal cluster, the East Coast Economic Region Development Council (ECERDC), in collaboration with Malaysian Biotechnology Corporation (BiotechCorp), organised its first international business symposium themed ‘Investment and Business Opportunities in ECER’s Herbal Industry’ on April 2011 in Kuala Lumpur which was attended by nearly 200 participants from Malaysia and overseas.

Officiated by the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, YB Tan Sri Nor Mohamed Yakcop, the symposium focused on investment opportunities that are available in ECER’s herbal and biotechnology cluster, covering the downstream, midstream and upstream sectors.

The ECER has been earmarked as a key implementer to develop the herbal industry under the New Economic Model’s Entry Point Projects (EPP), in which some RM110 million will be invested in four herbal plantations named in the EPP.
