The Kuantan Conurbation, which covers the areas of Pekan, Gambang, Gebeng, Kuantan Port and Kuantan City will be the next urban agglomeration in the country that will be focused upon by the Government, says Prime Minister Dato’ Sri Mohd Najib Tun Razak at the official opening of the Pekan Automotive Park’s Central Marketing Complex (CMC) recently.
Kuantan Conurbation forms the core of the East Coast Economic Region Special Economic Zone (ECER SEZ), which stretches from Kertih in Terengganu to Pekan in Pahang. It has been identified as a key growth centre of the nation, one that will spur the development of the and correct the regional imbalance.
“The Government foresees the Kuantan Conurbation to follow the footsteps of well-known urban agglomerations like Klang Valley, Penang and Johor Bahru in becoming a highly integrated and economically dense conurbation, with a significant contribution towards the Gross National Income (GNI),” said Dato’ Sri Mohd Najib.
Meanwhile, the official opening of the Pekan Automotive Park’s CMC on April 9, 2011 was also attended by Pahang Menteri Besar, Dato’ Sri Diraja Haji Adnan Haji Yaakob, Kelantan Menteri Besar Dato’ Haji Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat, Chief Executive Officer of the East Coast Economic Region Development Council (ECERDC), Dato’ Jebasingam Issace John and DRB-HICOM Berhad’s Group Managing Director, Dato’ Sri Haji Mohd Khamil bin Jamil.
The CMC was established as a one-stop centre to facilitate the needs and requirements for investors in the Pekan Automotive Park, which has been identified as one of the key projects in the ECER SEZ.
The Pekan Automotive Park is envisioned to become a national and regional hub for car assembly, manufacturing of automotive parts and components, as well as automotive R&D activities.
