Description
This proposal involves the development
of a citrus valley in Durian Mentangau in Dungun, Terengganu
(Figure 8.9.8). The total area allocated by KETENGAH for
the citrus fruit valley is 1,414 ha. At present about
550 ha have been developed by 8 companies (Phase 1). Phase
2, involving the remaining 964 ha, will be developed in
the 9MP.
The project will involve a number of private companies
as well as farmers under group farming initiatives. The
supply of disease-free planting materials (bud wood) will
come from the DOA Station at Ulu Paka.
A project office, managed by the MOA,
will be established on site to coordinate the implementation
of the park as well as to provide technical assistance.
The project will be based on
the nucleus farming concept where an anchor company
is invited to invest and act as the main coordinator.
This company will provide marketing services to outgrowers
through the Collection, Processing and Packaging Centre
(CPPC), which is to be established.
