ECER Pekan Dorper Auction (August 8, 2010)

The East Coast Economic Region Development Council (ECERDC), in collaboration with the Federal Land Development Authority (FELDA), will be holding Malaysia’s first ever public auction for Dorper sheep on August 8, 2010.

Members of the public are invited to take part in the auction which will involve 500 Dorper sheep branded as “Pekan Dorper”.  The sheep were raised under the East Coast Economic Region (ECER) Agropolitan Pekan project.

Known as ECER Pekan Dorper Auction, the event details are as listed below:

The auction will be carried out by licensed auctioneers from the Pahang Department of Veterinary Services.

The Dorper sheep, which was first introduced in South Africa, was developed by crossing the Dorset Horn and Blackhead Persian breeds.  Touted as one of the most fertile of the sheep breeds with potential lambing intervals of only eight months, Dorper sheep are well-adapted to a variety of climatic and conditions.

DETAILS ON PEKAN DORPER SHEEP

The Dorper sheep to be auctioned are classified into six categories with basic prices as listed below:
 
  1. Male lambs for slaughter 
  2. Male lambs for breeding
  3. Female lambs for slaughter
  4. Female lambs for breeding
  5. Culled ewes for slaughter
  6. Culled rams for slaughter
 
Bidding price for the sheep will start from RM300 onwards, depending on the categories.

The livestock will be auctioned off in groups of one (1) to 20 sheep in the specified category. Additionally, a mixed combination of sheep such as three (3) ewes and one (1) ram will be offered to cater for prospective farmers who would like to commence sheep farming on a small scale.

There are also 100 Dorper male lambs weighing more than 40 kg that will be offered to livestock wholesalers for slaughtering purpose.  The Dorper meat is ideal for the upcoming celebration of Ramadhan and Syawal, as well as for the Aqiqah ceremony.
 
GENERAL REQUIREMENTS FOR ALL BIDDERS

As a guide, these general requirements must be observed by all bidders during the auction:
 
  1. Each bidder must register and pay a registration fee of RM10.00 for the Auction Dorper guidebook before the start of the event.
  2. Only registered bidders may bid in the space provided.
  3. Bidders can check on the sheep from 9 am and bidding will start at 11 am.
  4. Auctioneers will start bidding from the basic price of each categorised batch/lot and an open bidding will be conducted to raise the bid price.
  5. Bids should be made according to the specified batch / lot, where every lot contains 1-20 sheep. The types of sheep are for slaughter and breeding.
  6. Bidders must bid on the fixed basic price.
  7. Each bid will be multiplied by RM50.00 for each livestock batch/lot being bid.
  8. The highest bid made is considered the winner.
  9. Successful bidders may not withdraw or cancel the bid that was won.
  10. Successful bidders should immediately make full payment in cash for the total cost of a batch / lot or pay 10% of the bid price in cash and another 90% by cheque or Banker's cheque.
  11. Bidders who have paid the full amount of the bid shall collect the sheep immediately, or no later than seven days from the date of the bid (For payment by cheque, the livestock will be handed over only after the cheque has been cleared).
  12. Officers and employees of ECERDC, FELDA, those directly involved and their relatives are not allowed to bid in the “ECER Pekan Dorper Auction”.
