Overview
Good infrastructure
facilities play a big role in ensuring projects planned under
the ECER Master Plan is successful.
Overall infrastructure in the ECER is good
but needs to be developed further to support the planned
project initiatives. Generally, within the ECER :
-
There is an adequate
electricity supply to meet the projected demand
-
Water supply capacity
is sufficient except for Kelantan where it needs to be
enhanced to meet demands
-
ECER is well served
by fixed line communication facilities and is able to
meet projected demand until 2020. However, the penetration
rate for cellular lines, internet dial up and broadband
in the Region is lower than the national standard and
needs to be upgraded
-
Sewerage services need
to be upgraded in stages to meet the development requirements
-
Solid and hazardous
waste services need to be planned and properly managed
to meet the development requirements
-
The recurrence of floods
during the monsoon season remains a challenge in the Region.
Construction of the Lebir Dam in Kuala Krai, Kelantan,
is one of the key projects to alleviate the situation
-
Certain parts of the
Region experience severe coastal erosion. Therefore, several
coastal protection initiatives are proposed. Among others
include the Integrated Shoreline Management Plans for
Kelantan and Terengganu coasts.
Key infrastructure areas that need to be
sustained to meet demands until 2020, are:
-
Supply of potable water
-
Supply of electricity
-
Telecommunication
network
-
Sewerage
-
Supply of natural
gas
-
Treatment of solid
and toxic waste
-
Drainage and irrigation
-
Flood mitigation
-
Protection against
coastal erosion, and
- Health care
