ECER At A Glance

In all the development plans of the nation, regional development has been a primary focus for the Government. These plans aim to improve the quality of life and increase the socio-economic standing of the populace.

The main objective of the ECER is to accelerate the growth of the region in a viable, equitable and sustainable manner.

This is undertaken via programmes and projects to raise income levels and reduce poverty by expanding employment prospects through the introduction of high impact, catalytic projects to spur development in the region.

These projects, or key initiatives, can be categorised into several clusters:

  • Tourism
  • Oil, Gas & Petrochemical
  • Manufacturing
  • Agriculture
  • Education
Other than the main initiatives, emphasis is given to the development of key enablers projects that will support growth such as transportation and logistics - especially seaports, airports and motorways. Infrastructure and utilities like electricity and water supply, telecommunication services and sewage systems are also stressed upon to create a conducive working, learning and living environment for ECER residents.
