What ECER Means To You?

ECER will provide immense benefits and advantages for you as the rakyat. The two primary targets of the ECER Master Plan are:

  1. The eradication of hardcore poverty by 2010
  2. The raising of household income by 2020

The additional benefits arising from achieving these two target are numerous. Among them are:

  • Over 500,000 new jobs shall be created over the next 12 years
    • Numerous jobs will be created in the tourism, oil, gas & petrochemical, manufacturing, agriculture and education sectors
  • Improved infrastructure and transport services
    • Accessibility to the ECER will be enhanced with the completion of the East Coast Expressway which will link Kuala Lumpur to Kota Bharu and further north to Thailand via Pengkalan Kubor
    • The next phase of the expressway will link Kuantan to Singapore via Johor Bahru
  • Access to higher education and skills training
    • Students can also gain access to nearby quality educational institutions
    • Students and employees alike will obtain access to skills training centres within the ECER that prepares them for work and businesses
  • Increase of business opportunities
    • There will be many new business opportunities, along with supporting incentive and financial packages from the government.
    • These busines opportunities arise largely from value adding current products and services up the value-chain
  • Protection of the environment and flood mitigation
    • Protection of the environment and flood mitigation will be a key pursuit within the ECER in order to achieve sustainable development and improved Quality of Life.
