Project Focus By
State
The three East Coast
States and the District of Mersing each has its own distinctive
defining quality and at the same time they are united by many
common characteristics. These features will determine the
unique developmental approach necessary to capitalise on its
existing economic activities, resource base and inherent strengths.

Pahang
State Positioning: Manufacturing
& Logistics
-
Manufacturing
Pahang will be developed as the ECER's main industrial & logistics
hub. It will focus largely
on resource-based downstream manufacturing activities such as rubber based industries,
wood based industries, halal food and non-food industries.
Pahang will also become ECER’s automotive manufacturing,
assembly and distribution hub, as well as the centre for
the development of automotive design, with support of
its educational institutions.
Other major manufacturing initiatives are Palm Oil Industry Cluster (POIC), which is an important manufacturing component of Kuantan Port City, and the Halal Park in Gambang.
-
Infrastructure
& Transport
Kuantan is already linked to Kuala Lumpur via the new
Phase I East Coast Expressway and to the south, a plan is underway
to connect it to Johor Bahru via the Phase IV of the East Coast Expressway
project.
The Kuantan Port City initiative
will see the existing port facilities vastly upgraded
to pave the way for Kuantan to become an integrated
terminal and logistics hub for the petrochemical, palm
oil, automotive and container market, as well as a major
industrial and manufacturing zone. Kuantan’s position
as the gateway to the Asia Pacific region will be used
to the best advantage, complementing Malaysia’s
other major marine and logistic hubs located in the
west and south of the peninsula.
-
Tourism
Pahang will become the ECER's centre for ecotourism with its wealth of natural beauty and its role as the gateway to Taman
Negara.
The famed Kuala Gandah Elephant Sanctuary and Safari
will be developed into a world class centre of conservation
excellence. The rehabilitation of Tasik Chini State Park is a major initiative for environmental protection and ecotourism.
Kuala Rompin will see a boost in tourism
with the Integrated Sport Fishing initiative. Facilities at Tanjung Gemuk Jetty will be upgraded
as a gateway to Pulau Tioman. Pantai Sepat and Pantai Air Leleh in Kuala Pahang have been
earmarked for resort and hotel development and other mainland coastal tourism activities.
-
Agriculture
The agriculture focus for Pahang is to develop and promote
pineapple-growing and integration into oil palm plantations in Rompin, fruit agricultural park in Lanchang, vegetable growing in Kuantan,
as well as Nucleus Cattle Breeding & Research Centre
in Muadzam Shah.
-
Education
The newly established Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP) will play an
important role in developing human capital, especially
in engineering and technology-based sciences. Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) in Jengka will specialise in providing skills for wood based industry.
