The three East Coast States and the District of Mersing each has its own distinctive defining quality and at the same time they are united by many common characteristics. These features will determine the unique developmental approach necessary to capitalise on its existing economic activities, resource base and inherent strengths.

District of Mersing, Johor

State Positioning: Tourism

Mersing will emerge as an important mainland coastal tourism destination, with highly developed tourist facilities to accomodate the needs of visitors to the area.

The Mersing group of islands will be developed as an important excursionist destination, allowing more visitors to experience its pristine beauty.

Mersing will continue to be developed as the gateway to the islands of Pulau Besar, Pulau Rawa, Pulau Aur, Pulau Sibu and Pulau Pemanggil. It also serves as a gateway town to Pulau Tioman in Pahang.

Mersing is also envisioned to become an important centre for ecotourism by virtue of its role as one of the gateways into the Endau Rompin National Park.

Accessibility to Mersing will be significantly improved through the construction of the East Coast Highway, and upgrading of the coastal road.
