Strategies
The transport sector’s
strategic thrusts have been developed in accordance with the
framework of the ECER Master Plan.
The transport sector will enhance the following
mission thrusts :
Specific strategic
thrusts have also been identified for the transport sub-sectors:
- Road sector
- Establishment of quality “spine”
expressway network in main corridors
- Establishment/strengthening of quality
federal roads serving the identified sub-corridors
- Upgrading of supporting road networks
- Air sector
- Establishment of Kuala Terengganu
Airport to international airport status and as the regional
tourism gateway
- Upgrading of the Kota Bharu and Kuantan
airports to enable handling of larger aircrafts with
the necessary support facilities
- Development of air-freight capabilities
at Kuantan Airport to support development of Kuantan
as a regional logistics hub.
- Maritime sector
- Kuantan Port to be developed as a
regional hub for trading in petrochemical, palm oil,
automotive, and container markets to Indo-China, ASEAN
and other East Asian countries
- Kemaman Port to be developed as a
sea port focusing on heavy industries
- Kertih Port to be developed as a
part of the oil, gas & petrochemical cluster operations
- Railway sector
- To conduct a feasibility study for ECER
train services
- Provision for a ‘scenic’
train service from Singapore to Tumpat
- To upgrade the existing facilities at
various train stations in Tumpat, Tanah Merah, Kuala Krai,
Gua Musang, Merapoh, Kuala Lipis & Jerantut.
