The Bio-economy sector contributed to up to 13% of the Malaysian GDP and is set to transform Malaysia into a bio-based, high income nation by year 2020. The Malaysian Biotechnology Programme was launched in October 2012 with the aim of identifying specific bio-based industries that would accelerate economic development.
