The remarkable beauty and diversity of ECER’s natural assets, which include beautiful islands, beaches, old forests, biosphere reserve, distinctive culture and heritage, wetlands and cool highland retreats have made tourism as one of the key economic drivers for the Region’s economy.
Given the enormous potential to be an internationally-recognised tourist destination, ECERDC has identified several types of tourism experiences namely urban and mainland coastal tourism, island tourism, ecotourism as well as arts, culture and heritage tourism.
In fact, with its pristine water lapping the shores of the white sandy beaches, the islands in Terengganu and Pahang were listed as top 50 beaches of the World’s 100 Best Beaches by CNN in 2013 and as the top 10 best islands for a holiday in Malaysia in 2017.
