Bioenergy Production

With nearly 40 percent of Peninsular Malaysia’s palm oil processing capacity located within ECER, the Region offers strong potential for biomethane production as a renewable alternative to natural gas.

Investors are encouraged to explore opportunities in converting palm oil mill effluent (POME) biogas into biomethane that can be injected into existing gas pipelines or distributed via virtual networks. ECERDC facilitates partnerships between mill operators, gas distributors, and industrial off-takers to support project deployment in Pahang, Kelantan, and Terengganu.

By participating in Malaysia’s expanding bioenergy value chain, investors can help advance national decarbonisation goals under the NETR while unlocking sustainable energy supply opportunities across the Region’s industrial clusters.
