Fisheries

ECERDC’s aquaculture strategy focuses on developing three major projects within Aquaculture Industrial Zones (ZIA), leveraging 600 hectares of coastal and inland sites to produce 30,000 tonnes of fish for the domestic and export markets. Implemented through private investments, these projects will adopt biosecure, sustainable aquaculture systems, improving productivity while maintaining ecological balance.

Supported by the Department of Fisheries (DOF) and Department of Drainage and Irrigation (DDI), the initiative aims to contribute RM440 million in GDP impact, generate 600 jobs, and attract RM1.2 million in private investment by 2030. A key goal is to improve the fisheries-to-aquaculture landing ratio in ECER from 90:10 to 70:30, signalling a structural shift towards sustainable aquaculture.

Future Opportunities

ECERDC is opening opportunities for investors to participate in aquaculture projects across Kelantan, Terengganu and Pahang. With established sites focused on species such as tilapia, patin and freshwater prawns, investors can adopt modern farming practices, enhance productivity and venture into downstream processing to serve both domestic and export markets.
