The East Coast Economic Region (ECER) is emerging as a regional hub for specialty chemicals, biopolymers and advanced materials, as outlined in the New Industrial Master Plan (NIMP) 2030. Anchored by a mature petrochemical ecosystem in Kertih, Gebeng and Kuantan, the Region offers strong synergies with the oleochemical and mineral industries.
ECERDC’s strategy focuses on attracting global investors aligned with the China+1 strategy and supporting industries pursuing decarbonisation solutions. The availability of renewable energy and carbon capture, utilisation and storage (CCUS) hubs in Kertih and Kuantan strengthens ECER’s competitiveness in offering sustainable production options.
The Region also presents opportunities for the development of high-value products, including nutritional chemicals, polymers and bio-based materials. With robust infrastructure, established ports in Kemaman and Kuantan, and a conducive business ecosystem, ECER continues to draw strategic investments in advanced and sustainable manufacturing.
