ECER’s rich mineral resources, particularly in Terengganu and Pahang, position the Region as a leading destination for mineral processing and downstream industries. Terengganu holds an estimated 85 percent of Malaysia’s non-radioactive rare earth element reserves valued at RM554 billion, while silica and iron ore resources in both states contribute significantly to Malaysia’s industrial growth.
The Region’s focus is on strengthening downstream processing to enhance value creation, particularly for non-radioactive rare earth elements, silica and iron-based products. Key initiatives include the establishment of mineral consolidation and processing centres in Dungun and Mentakab, supported by efficient logistics connectivity through Kuantan Port and the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL).
Collaboration with foreign partners is being pursued to advance technology transfer, encourage sustainable extraction practices and strengthen ECER’s position as a centre for responsible mineral-based manufacturing.
