The future for crops is in advanced farming methods such as Vertical Farming and other Industry 4.0 farming technologies to maximise productivity and efficiency throughout the value chain. To this end, ECERDC encourages the utilisation and adoption of advanced farming method.

ECERDC is currently seeking visionary investors to diversify the types of crops in the Region and explore new markets such as Agrotourism. Vast opportunities are also open to investors to participate in large-scale farming in the ECER.

On-going Projects

There are 3 plantation projects companies who are reaping the benefits of investing in the ECER’s Agribusiness projects in Pahang and Terengganu.

ROMPIN INTEGRATED PINEAPPLE PLANTATION (RIPP), PAHANG

Anchor Company: Rompin Integrated Pineapple Industries Sdn Bhd (RIPI)

This is a fully-integrated project using 1,500 hectares of land in Phase 1 and 2,600 hectares of land in Phase 2 to produce MD2 pineapples using high-technology, large-scale commercial farming techniques. RIPI manages the entire value chain of pineapple production, involving nurseries, plantations and a Collection, Processing and Packaging Centre (CPPC). The project has provided opportunities for 18 contract farmers to participate in this business and it has also employed over 300 local workers, 101 of whom are the local Orang Asli.

The fruits are distributed fresh or processed into dried fruit snacks under the “ROMPINE” brand, and is a recognised premium produce in the market.

HERBAL INTEGRATED CLUSTER DEVELOPMENT (HICD) CHEGAR PERAH, LIPIS, PAHANG

Anchor Company: CSC Integrated Herbal Sdn Bhd

This is one of the largest commercial Tongkat Ali farms with 6,505 trees. Phase 1 of the project uses 120 hectares of land, growing high-value herbs such as Tongkat Ali, lemongrass (cymbopogon) and asam gelugur (garcinia cambogia).

This project has created over 20 new jobs and 7 entrepreneurship opportunities for the local community.

HERBAL INTEGRATED CLUSTER DEVELOPMENT (HICD) PASIR RAJA, DUNGUN, TERENGGANU

Anchor Company: Bioalpha Holdings Bhd

This project focuses on herbs such as Cat’s Whiskers (Misai Kucing), Green Chitretta (Hempedu Bumi), Roselle, Kacip Fatimah and Tongkat Ali for their downstream products in supplement herbal drinks and teas to meet the increasing global demand for tropical herbs in the pharmaceutical, nutraceutical, and cosmeceutical industries.

Phase 1 of the project utilizes 123 hectares of land, and it has created 26 entrepreneurship opportunities and 52 new jobs for the local community.

Future Opportunities

As food security is a key priority for Malaysia, there is ample space and opportunity for investors in the agribusiness sector. ECERDC is seeking investors involved in the agrofood sector especially utilising high-technology farming.
