The East Coast Economic Region Development Council (ECERDC) was established as a Federal Statutory Body under Act 688 on 13 June 2008 to ensure balanced regional development in the East Coast Economic Region (ECER)

Its sight was trained towards uplifting the quality of life of the people in the Region by implementing proactive economic development strategies that addressing issues related to economic development, business retention and employment.

ECERDC was also eyeing development and growth domestically and internationally due to the strategic location and accessibility of the states of Kelantan, Terengganu, Pahang and Mersing in Johore  and looking beyond South East Asian countries with China and Europe presenting the ultimate destination for products and services of industry players.

The economic sectors providing prospective returns on investments identified by the Council were manufacturing, tourism, education and the services sectors.

In conjunction with ECERDC’s 15th anniversary, it will portray its efforts, challenges and successes as it continues to move forward to bring more progress into the region and its people.

The continuity of ECERDC’s achievements hinges on the support from visionary and progressive State Governments who have so far been accommodative towards enabling projects and programmes which will ultimately elevate the region to be on par with the more developed states in the country.

Beyond 2023, the leap forward will be a big stride as the time factor to achieve the objectives of its third Master Plan by 2025 becomes more challenging as the evolution of industries around the world have started taking shape.
