Strengthening ECER’s Coastal Maritime Industry

The Marine Industry in the East Coast Economic Region (ECER) presents significant opportunities for investors to lead the next wave of growth in shipbuilding and ship repair (SBSR), marine-related manufacturing and heritage boat building. Guided by the New Industrial Master Plan (NIMP) 2030, ECERDC is facilitating partnerships between investors, Federal and State agencies to expand Malaysia’s maritime capabilities and strengthen its position in the regional SBSR value chain.

With more than 80 percent of global trade transported by sea and rising demand for sustainable shipping and offshore support services, ECER’s strategic coastal locations, including Tok Bali, Kemaman and Kuantan, offer strong potential for private-sector participation. Supported by the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL), these hubs provide seamless connectivity between industrial clusters, ports and supply bases.
