Empowering the Rakyat to Share in the Region’s Prosperity
While ECERDC drove investments and development to achieve macro-economic goals in the Region, its primary focus remained the rakyat. Programmes such as empower ECER (Academic), empower ECER (Skills & Entrepreneurship) and entrepreneur ECER transformed the lives of individuals and communities by enabling them to access job and entrepreneurial opportunities that uplifted their socio-economic status. The empower ECER (Academic) programme, for example, supported underprivileged students through structured classes and enrichment activities, delivered in collaboration with local leaders, universities and NGOs. Among its partners was Dialog Group (MyKasih Foundation), which helped create a supportive environment for student achievement.
To further enhance the quality of life for local communities, ECERDC also focused on enabling the growth of small businesses. Through the empower ECER and entrepreneur ECER programmes, micro and small entrepreneurs were guided to formalise their businesses, supported with advisory and consultation services, and monitored to ensure sustainability. These programmes also helped entrepreneurs secure financing for expansion, obtain certifications and adopt digitalisation, laying the foundation for long-term business growth in the Region.
Additionally, 94% of the participants successfully retained their positions for at least six months, reflecting the programme’s impact in not only addressing workforce shortages but also in sustaining employment outcomes within the region.
