EXPLORING MALAYSIA ON WHEELS: MATTA FAIR REFLECTS GROWING INTEREST IN RECREATIONAL VEHICLES (RV)
Knaus Tabbert (KT) Unveiled its Latest RV Models, Another Step Ahead Towards Establishing RV Travel Lifestyle Across the Country
KUALA LUMPUR, 25 MARCH 2024: The East Coast Economic Region Development Council (ECERDC) has taken another stride in advancing RV tourism in Malaysia, especially to the East Coast Economic Region (ECER) with the soft launch of two models from Knaus Tabbert AG’s lineup by Asia RV Sdn. Bhd. (Knaus Tabbert’s exclusive importer for Malaysia and RCEP region) and Mayflower Car Rental (strategic rental partner in Malaysia).
“ECERDC’s effort in attracting investors in the RV industry to Malaysia, in collaboration with TAPiO Management Advisory, have started to materialise with the soft launch of the Knaus campervans at the recent MATTA fair, marking another milestone in the development of the RV ecosystem in Malaysia, especially ECER,” said YBhg. Dato’ Baidzawi Che Mat, Chief Executive Officer of ECERDC at the soft launch of Knaus SÜDWIND Caravan and Knaus Boxdrive 600XL at the MATTA Fair.
The soft launch also celebrated a pioneering partnership between Knaus Tabbert AG, Asia RV and Mayflower Group. Asia RV has been appointed as the exclusive partner for Knaus Tabbert AG in Malaysia, with strategic goal to bring world-class RV to Malaysian consumers, providing them with a unique and unforgettable travel experience.
Furthermore, Mayflower Group has joined Asia RV as the first rental partner for Knaus Tabbert AG’s RV in Malaysia. This partnership enables travelers to explore the beauty of Malaysia in ultimate comfort and luxury, setting new standards in the country’s leisure and tourism industry.

Dato’ Ragu Sampasivam, Chief Operating Officer of ECERDC; Mr Gerd Adamietzki, Chief Sales Officer of Knaus Tabbert AG; Mr Werner Vaterl, Chief Operating Officer of Knaus Tabbert AG; Mr Bernhard Schutte, Chairman of Asia RV Sdn. Bhd.; and Ms Dawn Chin, Chief Executive Officer of Mayflower Group.
Dato’ Baidzawi stated that ECERDC has been spearheading the RV industry development since 2021 and had facilitated multiple visits by the delegation from Caravaning Verband e.V. (CIVD), which represents German RV players to the ECER region to explore investment and business opportunities in the RV industry, as well as identify potential locations to develop RV parks in ECER.
ECERDC in its effort to establish ECER as the RV hub of Asia and a preferred investment destination for RV makers, RV components suppliers, and RV park operators had signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with CIVD in Germany during an investment mission in June 2022. ECERDC has also signed a Memorandum of Collaboration with Knaus Campingparks in August 2022 to develop RV camping parks in the ECER region.
ECER region, which is blessed with lush rainforests, pristine beaches, islands, cultural and heritage richness has immense potential for the growth of RV tourism. Pantai Hiburan Rompin in Pahang has been earmarked to be developed as the first RV park in ECER.
