The East Coast Economic Region Developement Council (ECERDC), in collaboration with the Federal Land Developement Authority, will hold the country’s first public auction for Dorper sheep on August 8.
The auction, to be held at the Agropolitan Pekan project site in Runchang, is open to public, farmers and budding sheep breeders from 10am to 1pm. About 500 Dorper sheep, which have been raised under Pekan Agropolitan project for hardcore poor, will be auctioned, ECERDC said in a statement today.

Bid prices start from RM300 per animal with each bid raised by RM50. To participate, bidders need to register and pay a registration fee of RM10 each.
“We would like to take this opportunity to invite all interested bidders to take part in this auction which is the first of its kind for Dorper sheep in Malaysia,” said ECERDC chief executive officer Datuk Jebasingam Issace John.
The Dorper sheep is a South African breed of domestic sheep developed by crossing Dorset Horn and the Blackhead Persian breeds.
Touted as one of the most fertile of the sheep breeds with potential lambing intervals of only eight months, the Dorper sheep are well-adapted to various climates and conditions.
