The Kelantan government has given its approval for the East Coast Economic Region Development Council (ECERDC) to develop the state land at Mukim Renok in Galas and at Mukim Relai in Ciku, Gua Musang for the South Kelantan agropolitant project.
Kelantan Menteri Besar Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat said with the approval, it indirectly revoked an application for ownership of the affected land, covering 600 hectares, by the South Kelantan Development Authority (Kesedar).
“With this decision, the land will remain state land because ECERDC will only be responsible for developing the site,” he told reporters after the weekly state executive council meeting on Wednesday.
He said it was easier to allow ECERDC to develop the land because upon completion of the project, any decision to be made later, like transfer of ownership of the land to the poor, could be done by the state government without going through many parties.
Nik Aziz said implementation of the project, which involved construction of houses, business premises and utilities, began last May with the construction of 350 housing units.
“The state government has been informed that ECERDC has appointed the contractor to build the houses. The project is scheduled for completion on Jan 14, next year,” he added.
He said the component involved in the project included a market, aquaponic, mushroom house, cocoa gathering centre, exhibition site, research centre, mosque, a bus and taxi station, rural library, IT centre, a primary school, rural clinic, police station and a kindergarten.
