The East Coast Economic Region Development Council (ECERDC) is to launch a new human capital project to increase the household income of Bentong residents and reduce poverty.
Called,”Empower” Bentong, the project will be officially launched on July 31 by Pahang Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Adnan Yaakob in Bentong.
“Empower” Bentong is aimed at enhancing skills among the employable population while providing scholastic guidance to students sitting for the UPSR, PMR and SPM exams, said ECERDC in a statement here, Wednesday.
Bentong was picked for the pioneer project due to its proximity to the Klang Valley and potential for economic spillover. It has also a good community mix,
reflecting the 1Malaysia concept.
ECERDC Chief Executive Officer, Datuk Jebasingam Issace John said human capital development played a key role in the ECER’s economic growth.
He added that it enhanced the competitiveness and skills of the local workforce which would prepare them to meet the expectations and needs of employers and industries.
The “empower” Bentong project will run parallel to ECERDC’s other human capital development initiative, KerJaya ECER, launched in 2009 to promote knowledge, innovation and creativity.
KerJaya ECER provides skills training to unemployed graduates and retrenched employees before matching them to appropriate jobs.
As of June this year, KerJaya ECER had attracted over 5,000 participants and 350 companies from throughout the ECER states.
Of these, a total of 1,500 participants have successfully been employed.
