The perception that daily school students cannot achieve excellent results in public examinations must be changed as many of them, who have undergone the East Coast Economic Region Development Council’s(ECERDC) educational empowerment programme, have proved otherwise.
Pahang Housing, Basic Amenities and Transportation Committee chairman Datuk Mohd Soffi Abdul Razak said many of these students had scored 100 per cent passes in all subjects sat in either Ujian Pencapaian Sekolah Rendah (UPSR), Penilaian Menengah Rendah (PMR) or Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examinations after undergoing the programme.
“Prior to this, these students were categorised as ”academically weak”, but the tuitions and motivation given by ECERDC through its educational empowerment programme, had helped them to pass their examinations with flying colours.
“In fact, 400 students from 10 schools in Lipis who participated in the programme had scored 100 per cent passes in all subjects.
“This proved that the programme is very effective in boosting the spirit of the students in rural areas to excel in their UPSR, PMR and SPM examinations, and hence, change the negative perception,” he told reporters here today.
Earlier, Mohd Soffi also presented school aid and certificates to 17 students who excelled in their PMR examination after participating in the programme last year.
