The Tanjung Agas Oil and Gas and Maritime Industrial Park, one of the key projects in the East Coast Economic Region is doing well in attracting investors, says Pahang Deputy Secretary (Development) Datuk Mahadiah Mohamad.
Located in Pekan, Pahang and south of Kuantan Port, she said the park acted as a modern one-stop service centre and offshore base serving and supporting the region’s upstream and downstream oil and gas exploration and production activities.
“More of the maritime based and its shipping services, are doing very well,” she told Bernama here Wednesday.
Mahadiah is among the delegates of the East East Coast Economic Region Development Council’s (ECERDC) investment mission currently visiting (May 7-17)West Asia to woo Gulf investors to the development corridor.
Riyadh is the second leg of the mission, led by National Corridor Development Adviser and former prime minister Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi.
The other stops are Abu Dhabi in United Arab Emirates (UAE), as well as Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
The mission is a collaboration between the Malaysian Industrial Development Authority, Malaysian embassies in UAE and Saudi Arabia, with the participation from ECERDC, ECER state governments and Halal Development Corp.
ECERDC, is acting as a one-stop centre to fast-track applications and approvals and provide counselling and advisory services for investors in the industrial park.
On the ongoing mission, Mahadiah said that based on the business meetings with potential investors, keen interest have been shown.
“Now, we are working out the mechanism on how to translate it to proper action, which includes project identification and working together.”
There will be more follow-up discussions soon, she said.
Tanjung Agas was chosen to be a maritime industrial hub following its strategic location and naturally sheltered area to ensure safety of ships during the monsoon season and for the availability of ample land for the proposed development projects.
It also has good transport linkages and multimodel connectivity.
Apart from the maritime industrial park, Mahadiah said there were also plans to attract investors for its tourism attractions.
ECER Malaysia covers the states of Kelantan, Terengganu, Pahang and the district of Mersing in Johor.
