BENTONG: Malaysia will send the Dewan Rakyat’s 10-point resolution which condemns the Israeli attacks on Gaza to the parliaments and congresses of all UN members.
“We will give it to the parliaments of the European Union, United States Congress and the parliaments of the member nations of the Non-aligned Movement and the Organisation of the Islamic Conference,” said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi after chairing the third council meeting of the East Coast Economic Region here yesterday.
The Dewan Rakyat, on Monday, unanimously adopted Abdullah’s motion which condemned the attacks on Gaza and the 10 resolutions tabled by him.
The resolutions called for the full withdrawal by Israel from Gaza and urged the United Nations Security Council to compel Israel to immediately cease its military attacks on Gaza and to deploy a peacekeeping force to enforce the ceasefire.
Abdullah said Malaysia had also sent a letter to UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and UN General Assembly president Miguel d’Escoto Brockmann asking the Security Council to approve a mechanism that could help implement the resolutions to stop Israeli aggression against the Palestinians.
On the postponement of the Free Trade Agreement between Malaysia and the US, he admitted that the decision was also influenced by Israel’s attack on Gaza.
However, Abdullah said details would be presented to the cabinet by International Trade and Industry Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
Abdullah denied claims that student groups from Malaysia were about to enter the Palestinian territory to offer assistance.
“Only Mercy Malaysia was allowed to provide humanitarian aid from Malaysia and they received contribution from Petronas.”
