Joint venture to develop, export kenaf polymer composite

Malaysian company, Symphony Advance Sdn Bhd (SASB), and Korea’s
Samsung Cheil Industries Incorporated will joint hands for a technical
collaboration to develop and export kenaf polymer composite.
SASB, a company which operates in the East Coast Economic Region will
exchange documents for the collaboration next Friday.
In a statement yesterday, ECER Secretariat said the two companies would seal
the technical collaboration in an exchange of documents on August 22, to be
witnessed by
The event is expected to be witnessed by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah
Ahmad Badawi and Kelantan Menteri Besar, Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat.
Kenaf’s stem produces a coarser fibre on the outer layer and a finer one in the
core. The plant can grow to 1.5-3.5 metres and has a long history of cultivation
for its fibre in India, Bangladesh, Thailand, parts of Africa, and to a small extent,
South-East Europe.
The plant has been identified as a potential crop to replace tobacco along the
East Coast of Peninsular Malaysia.
