PUTRAJAYA, 16 DECEMBER 2013:The East Coast Economic Region (ECER) today announced new committed investments in the Region amounting RM10.08 billion by 12 investors, which include 3 recipients of the TERAJU Facilitation Fund for Bumiputera entrepreneurs.
The investments consist of four investments worth RM5.61 billion in Pahang, five investments in Kelantan worth RM2.96 billion and three investments in Terengganu worth RM1.51 billion.
With these new investments, the amount of investments attracted by the region in 2013 alone stood at RM28.46 billion. The total investments in ECER recorded since 2007 to date amounted to RM55.8 billion, already surpassing the halfway mark of ECER’s RM110 billion investment target by 2020. The RM55.8 billion investments are expected to create 55,000 job opportunities for the rakyat.
Prime Minister, Y.A.B. Dato’ Sri Mohd Najib Tun Abdul Razak witnessed the exchange of the investment commitments in ECER by the investors at a special ceremony here this evening.
Earlier, the Prime Minister also witnessed the exchange of Collaboration Instrument between the East Coast Economic Region Development Council (ECERDC), Malaysian Biotechnology Corporation (BiotechCorp) and Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP) to develop the Pahang Bio-Aromatic Park in Maran. The park will witness the development of a Bio-Aromatics Centre of Excellence and Innovation which will provide the required ecosystem to attract the arrival of flavour and fragrance industry players from Malaysia and abroad into ECER.
Patchouli has been identified as one of the potential plants to be cultivated at the bio-aromatic park in Maran. The project is expected to further strengthen ECER as a hub for bio-economy-based industries, with potential downstream investments estimated at over RM100 million.
Exchanging the document on behalf of ECERDC was its Chief Executive Officer, YBhg. Dato’ Jebasingam Issace John, while UMP was represented by its Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dato’ Dr. Daing Nasir Ibrahim. Biotech Corporation was represented by its Chief Executive Officer, YBhg. Dato’ Dr. Mohd Nazlee Kamal.
