YAB Menteri Besar Terengganu Visits Teluk Lipat Headlands Project and ECERDC’s Human Capital Development Programme in Dungun
DUNGUN, TERENGGANU, 13 MARCH 2022: Terengganu’s socio-economic growth is expected to remain strong and resilient following the Federal Government’s concerted efforts through the East Coast Economic Region Development Council (ECERDC) together with the Terengganu State Government to implement high impact projects.
ECERC targets RM4 billion in committed investment which will create over 2,800 new jobs and 250 entrepreneurial opportunities in Terengganu as well as RM2 billion in realised investment for year 2022. To realise the target, ECERDC will aggressively promote Terengganu as a competitive investment destination through investment missions, investment webinars and stakeholder engagements. Among the potential investments targeted to be committed in 2022 are in the production of steel, energy, real estate and logistic sectors.
The Menteri Besar of Terengganu YAB Dato’ Seri Dr. Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar, who chaired ECER Implementation and Coordination Committee (ICC) Terengganu meeting in Dungun, Terengganu, today, while commending ECERDC’s efforts in attracting investments said, with the right economic strategy and the development of key enabling infrastructure, Terengganu is indeed an attractive investment destination. In the ICC meeting, the Menteri Besar of Terengganu and ICC members were also updated about the progress of ECERDC’s projects in the state.
Post ICC meeting, the ICC members were taken to the empower ECER-Mekar programme in Dungun where they witnessed the entrepreneur programmes conducted in collaboration with Yayasan PETRONAS. Among courses conducted include Digitalpreneur (i-Trader), Tailorpreneur, Spa and Beauty and Bakery & Pastries.
This year, ECERDC targets to train 1,200 students in 30 schools under the empower ECER Academic Training Programme while the empower ECER Skills and Entrepreneurship Training programme will train 450 participants in Terengganu.
With the success of the ACES I4.0 Web App pilot programme conducted last year, the Asia Center of Excellence for Smart Technologies (ACES), established by ECERDC, has moved forward to also train participants who are interested in pursuing a career in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) under the ACES-ECER Jobs Train & Place programme. The programme targets to ensure at least 800 participants within ECER are trained with a targeted 80% job placement rate. To date, 145 participants from Terengganu have been trained and successfully employed in the ICT industry.
At the same time, ECERDC remains focused on supporting the National Economic Recovery Plan (PENJANA) through its PENJANA-ECERDC programmes to ensure employability of ECER’s workforce impacted by the recent pandemic. To date, 4,218 participants have been trained in Terengganu and 91% have obtained jobs with an average income of RM2,300 a month. This year, another 400 participants will be trained under this programme.
After visiting the empower-ECER Mekar programme, YAB Menteri Besar of Terengganu and the ICC members visited the Teluk Lipat headlands project where they were briefed about the potential economic and recreational activities along the headlands by ECERDC and Jabatan Landskap Negara. The completion of the remaining four (4) headlands under construction is expected by October 2022. Once completed, the eight (8) headlands constructed by ECERDC will provide coastal protection along the 9.7km of shoreline to Sungai Sura.
“We have taken this opportunity to bring the ICC members to visit the Teluk Lipat headlands which is meant for coastal protection and also witness its future growth potential. We envisage Teluk Lipat headlands to be developed for tourism activities such as pocket parks with water sports activities, retail outlets and also serve as a location for the proposed pilot RV park which will boost the attraction of the area and increase economic activities of the locals,” said YBhg. Dato’ Baidzawi Che Mat, the Chief Executive Officer of ECERDC after the visit.
Other projects being pursued by ECERDC under the Twelfth Malaysia Plan, are the development of KTCC Promenade Phase 1, Kerteh Biopolymer Park (KBP) Phase 4, SME building Phase 1B in KBP, as well as Kuala Terengganu Airport Road Package 2.
