Realisation of the First Data Centre by ECERDC in the ECER Region
PUTRAJAYA, 10 APRIL 2023: Synapse Network Sdn. Bhd. today signed a lease agreement with the East Coast Economic Region Development Council (ECERDC) for a 3-acre land to construct their data centre at Pahang Technology Park (PTP) to serve the ASEAN region.
Synapse Network Sdn. Bhd. (SNSB), the Malaysian registered entity of a Toronto based innovative data centre provider for the North American market, delivers critical IT infrastructure needs of global businesses. SNSB was represented by its President Mr. Benjamin Kong while ECERDC was represented by its Chief Executive Officer (CEO) YBhg. Dato’ Baidzawi Che Mat in the signing ceremony held at ECERDC office in Putrajaya. The signing was witnessed by SNSB CEO Mr. Raymond Cheung and ECERDC’s Chief Operating Officer (COO) Dato’ Ragu Sampasivam.
“The signing of the lease agreement marks a significant milestone for ECERDC as it is the first step towards establishing the first data centre at PTP. SNSB’s decision to expand its operations in PTP will be a catalyst in ECER’s digital ecosystem and will open the door for future digital investors to invest in the region,” said YBhg. Dato’ Baidzawi Che Mat.
In January this year, SNSB signed an offer letter to accept the lease of 3 acres of land at PTP for its data centre expansion during ECERDC’s investment mission led by its COO YBhg. Dato’ Ragu Sampasivam to Synapse Data Solutions Management, SNSB’s headquarters in Toronto, Canada.
SNSB’s President, Mr. Benjamin Kong said the expansion of Synapse’s data centre in PTP will provide a decentralised centre for digital technology and web 3.0 (data analytics) to serve its international clients such as the Alibaba Group, Dell and IBM.
“We have held several meetings with ECERDC to discuss our requirements for investment in ECER and ECERDC has facilitated all our requests. I am pleased today that we are able to conclude our land negotiation and we look forward to begin operating from PTP,” he added.
PTP is also intended to be the home to the Asia Centre of Excellence for Smart Technologies (ACES), ECERDC’s key strategic initiative in collaboration with Germany’s TUM International GmbH (TUMInt), a subsidiary of Germany’s top-ranking university Technische Universität München (Technical University of Munich), to accelerate the adoption of I4.0, create quality jobs and entrepreneurial opportunities in ECER.
“With Synapse’s entry into PTP, we hope to catalyse and attract more digital industries into ECER. The investment from Synapse will create 50 job opportunities for the locals in the data centre industry and this is what ECERDC envisions in line with our effort to propel the adoption of I4.0 in ECER and the nation,” said YBhg. Dato’ Ragu Sampasivam.
