The project is geared towards creating new entrepreneurs as
well as improving the income of the poor, said a statement
from the ECER secretariat.
Under the East Coast Economic Region (ECER)’s thrust to
promote aquaculture in Lake Kenyir, Terengganu Agrotech
Development Corporation Sdn Bhd (TADC) intends to
increase the fish farming production there from 200 metric
tonnes to 2,000 metric tonnes per annum by year-end.
According to TADC executive director Adnan Ghazali, this is
achievable by getting the involvement of more
entrepreneurs in the lake’s aquaculture programme. On
average, a fish cage can produce about one metric tonne of
fish, depending on the fish species. Entrusted by the state
government as the developer for fish farming in Lake Kenyir,
TADC is aiming for about 2,000 fish cages by year-end.
