The Finance Ministry has approved the construction of the Bukit Kuang Bridge in Kemaman which involves an allocation of RM200 million, Terengganu Menteri Besar Datuk Ahmad Said said Monday.
He said the bridge would be constructed under the East Coast Economic Corridor (ECER) programme.
It would be 15 metres high and have four lanes, he said at the signing of an ECER collaborative agreement on goat-breeding among the ECER Development Council (ECERDC), the Veterinary Services Department (JPV) and the Malaysian Agricultural Research and Development Institute (Mardi) and a commercial agreement on boat-breeding among the ECERDC, JPV and the Terengganu Agrotech Development Corporation (TADC).
Ahmad said the construction of the Hulu Tersat goat breeding and innovation centre would begin in August and was expected to be completed in two years. A goat farm will be established in Telaga Papan, Setiu.
He said the government targeted to establish 35 goat farms with the capacity to yield more than 36,000 goats by 2015.
“When the project is operational, we hope to produce 216 tonnes of mutton annually and make Terengganu the biggest producer of mutton in the country by 2015,” he said.
Ahmad said the goat breeding project in Telaga Papan involved 100 participants comprising poor farmers and fishermen who would earn RM1,000 a month.
“ECERDC will provide accommodation for the participants. When the farm produces yield in three years, their income will rise to at least RM1,500,” he said.
