Under the first rolling plan (2016-2017) of the 11th Malaysia Plan (11MP), the Federal Government has approved 11 development projects under East Coast Economic Region Development Council (ECERDC) in Kelantan including the redevelopment of Kampung Laut under the tourism cluster.
“Kampung Laut will be developed as a Heritage Tourism Village. This is a high-impact project which will be able to create more jobs and entrepreneurial opportunities for the local communities,” said ECERDC chief executive officer, Datuk Seri Jebasingam Issace John.
He said this after the ECER Implementation and Coordination (ICC) Kelantan meeting, chaired by Kelantan Menteri Besar, Dato’ Haji Ahmad Yakob today.
On the investment front, the total value of investments committed or approved in Kelantan from 2007 until April 2016 is RM12.5 billion, which has created 13,000 job opportunities for the people of Kelantan.
The largest proportion of investments is still from the manufacturing sector, followed by the logistics and tourism sectors. These top three sectors accounted for 83 per cent of the total investments in the state.
According to Issace, of the approved or committed investments from 2007 until April 2016, approximately RM4.41 billion are by Bumiputera companies and this is equivalent to 35.3 per cent of the RM12.5 billion total investment in Kelantan.
“Part of these were the result of ECERDC-TERAJU partnership in providingTERAJU@ECER facilitation funds for qualified Bumiputera-controlled investments. Most of the investments which received the facilitation fund are in property, tourism and manufacturing,” he said.
