After the successful investment mission to Middle East, ECERDC for the first time, has embarked to go to China to woo investors via the 14th China International Fair for Investment and Trade (CIFIT 2010) held in Xiamen.
Led by the ECERDC’s Council Member, Tan Sri Lee Shin Cheng, who is also the Executive Chairman of IOI Group, the delegation includes the development authority’s Chief Executive Officer, Datuk Jebasingam Issace John, senior officers and high-level officials from the ECER states.
As a prelude to the investment mission, Tan Sri Lee and Datuk Issace paid a courtesy call on China’s ambassador to Malaysia, His Excellency Chai Xi, to brief him on the ECERDC’s participation in CIFIT 2010, as well as the ECER projects that will be promoted to the Chinese investors there. “We are very happy and thankful for the support and assistance given by the Ambassador as well as the Chinese Embassy in ensuring the success of our investment mission,” Datuk Issace said.
He added that the ECER offers attractive fiscal and non-fiscal incentives to boost investment in tourism; oil, gas and petrochemical; manufacturing; agriculture and education. The region also has good infrastructure, abundant land, natural resources, good quality human capital and is easy to do business.
“With its strategic location and strong government support at both Federal and state level, ECER Malaysia is poised to become a major trade and industrial gateway, offering investors access to the vast, burgeoning markets of the Far East and the Asia Pacific, with a total population of 4 billion and a combined GDP of US$17 trillion,” Datuk Issace noted.
Meanwhile, Tan Sri Lee said more promotional activities will be undertaken to promote ECER as an investment destination among potential investors in China. In 2009, China is Malaysia’s top trading partner with trade worth RM127.9 billion. Of this, Malaysia’s exports to China total RM67.2 billion.
