Najib To Unveil Special Economic Zone In Pekan Tomorrow

The third East Coast Economic Region Development Council meeting today discussed the Special Economic Zone (SEZ) that will be launched in Pekan tomorrow by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.
The Pekan Agropolitan Project, aimed at eradicating abject poverty, will also be announced tomorrow, said council chief executive officer Datuk Jebasingam Issace John after attending the meeting at the Prime Minister’s office here Monday.
“The board also wants to promote private investments very actively. We also looked at the framework for the establishment of a real estate trust to unlock Malay reserve land,” he said.
Others are the Pekan Automotive Industrial Park, Kertih Polymer Park and Integrated development of Kuantan Port City.
The two-and-half-an-hour meeting was chaired by Najib, who is also ECER Development Council chairman.
It was attended by Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Tan Sri Nor Mohamed Yakcop and Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Sidek Hassan.
Present were Kelantan Menteri Besar Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat, Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Abdul Ghani Othman, Pahang Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Adnan Yaakob and Terengganu Menteri Besar Datuk Ahmad Said.
IOI Group executive chairman Tan Sri Lee Shin Cheng was the private sector representative at the meeting.
