MUSHROOM producer TLT Dynamic Sdn Bhd is targeting to triple its oyster
mushroom production with three new farms that will be completed soon.
Its executive chairman Sufian Mohd Said said TLT is producing nearly 100kg of
oyster mushrooms daily, making it Terengganu’s largest mushroom producer.
TLT’s production boost will help promote mushroom as an industrial crop as
identified under the East Coast Economic Region (ECER) initiative.
“TLT has spent about RM500,000 to build five farms, each with the capacity to house
30,000 bags of mushroom seeds which can be harvested in five months,” said
Sufian in a statement released by the ECER Secretariat.
Last year, it signed a deal with GCH Retail (M) Sdn Bhd to sell its mushrooms in the
chain of 87 Giant outlets and 16 Cold Storage stores nationwide.
Its product is also sold in other supermarkets in Terengganu.
Terengganu is emerging as a formidable producer of mushrooms, reducing
Malaysia’s dependency on Thailand.
According to statistics, Malaysia imported more than 2.6 million tonnes of
mushrooms in 2004 worth RM25.74 million.
China, Canada and India are the world’s top producers of both fresh and processed
mushrooms. In Malaysia, the most popular kind is white oyster.
