The Johor Royal Family and Entourage Grace Kampungstay@Teluk Buih as part of Kembara Mahkota Johor 2023
MERSING, 5 AUGUST 2023: The East Coast Economic Region Development Council’s (ECERDC) latest, niche tourism destination, Kampungstay@Teluk Buih today receives its first royal guests.
Yang Amat Mulia Tunku Idris Iskandar Al-Haj, Tunku Temenggong Johor visited Kampungstay@Teluk Buih as part of the four-day Kembara Mahkota Johor 2023. It was the third “pit-stop” of the first day of the expedition.
Also present were Yang Amat Mulia Tunku Abdul Rahman Al-Haj Tunku Panglima Johor, YBhg. Dato’ Dennis Muhammad Abdullah, Johor Menteri Besar, YAB Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi, Johor State Secretary YB Tan Sri Dato’ Dr. Haji Azmi bin Rohani, Tuan Haji Mohammed Shakib bin Haji Ali, District Officer of Mersing, Mersing District Council President Mohd Norman bin Haji Noh and YBhg. Dato’ Baidzawi Che Mat, Chief Executive Officer of ECERDC.
KampungStay@Teluk Buih which was completed in November last year provides an immersive experience in a village setting for tourists. The project, which involves the construction of 10 chalets, a multipurpose hall and restaurant has been handed over to Majlis Daerah Mersing (MDM) on 16 April 2023.
The royal entourage visited the villas and spent time watching mangrove tree planting near the villa’s compound before visiting the exhibition area at Dewan Samudera where they were received by YBhg. Dato’ Baidzawi Che Mat.
“KampungStay@Teluk Buih is now another “must visit” tourism destination in Mersing. This unique, resort-themed homestay set in idyllic village environment will enhance the tourism offering in Mersing. This project was developed as an activity centre or “staging base” to encourage tourists to interact with locals and participate in tourism activities and this has paved the way for the creation of more tourism-related entrepreneurial and employment opportunities in the surrounding areas,” said YBhg. His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim Ismail ibni Almarhum Sultan Iskandar Al-Haj, the Sultan of Johor, later joined the entourage and watched “sukan rakyat” (folk sports) which was held near Café Kuntum at KampungStay@Teluk Buih.
Other ECERDC projects in Mersing include PETA Rainforest Discovery Centre (RDC), a One-Stop Centre for tourists and visitors to Endau-Rompin Johor National Park, Jemaluang Dairy Valley which is part of ECERDC’s Dairy Valley initiative under agrofood@ECER as well as Endau-Mersing Fish Processing Park (EMFPP) which allows local players to participate in downstream fisheries activities.
Kembara Mahkota Johor 2023 makes a return this year after a three-year hiatus due to COVID-19 pandemic. The last time Kembara Mahkota was held was in 2019 where the royal family travelled close to 800 kilometres across 10 districts Johor to meet the people.
